Wireless <i>In Vivo</i> Biofuel Cell Monitoring

Enzymatic reactions involving glucose hold the potential for building implantable biosensors and embedded power generators various medical applications. While Biofuel cells (BFCs) such as enzymatic glucose/O 2 are ensured to benefit from abundant chemical resources that can be harvested in immediate environment of human body, highly critical vivo kinetics biofuel cell is not yet fully understood. Unfortunately, existing solutions real-time monitoring reaction on rodents possible today, or too bulky, which has a biasing impact animal behavior. This work presents light, battery-less, wireless strategy continuously monitor BFC implanted laboratory rat using Frequency Identification (RFID) link. An extremely lightweight flexible tag antenna footprint lower than 10 cm 2 presented with communication capability above 60 field environment. The operational capabilities demonstrated 24-hour continuous an reaction, both vitro vivo.
